Cycling Vietnam Holiday: Hue to Saigon 11 Days

Greetings from Vietnam By Bike's team! We are ready to start our fantastic 11-day cycling holiday in Vietnam. You will bike along the legendary Perfume River to Ha Khe Hill for a visit to the Thien Mu Pagoda. Then, you will roll down on back roads to the Nguyen Dynasty Tombs, such as the Tu Duc Tomb and the Incense Village. Continuing on, you will paddle to the Khai Dinh Tomb, with short stops to admire the esplanade architecture and observe the surrounding hills before returning to the hotel for dinner. overnight in Hue!

Enjoy a scenic transfer to the coastal roads of Vietnam and start your day of cycling off the beaten track. Follow a picturesque lane shaded by coconut palms, running alongside the peninsula from Thuan An beach to Phuoc Tuong Pass. This cycling route allows you to pause and explore some of the hundreds of ancestral tombs scattered across the high sand dunes. Stop for lunch at Lang Co beach before tackling one of the biggest challenges of the day - the rolling hills leading up to the peak of Hai Van Pass. The Hai Van Pass is a renowned cycling challenge, but the exhilarating descent of 12 km into Danang City is a rewarding payoff. From Danang, you'll transfer to the historic town of Hoi An. The historic, merchant town and safe harbor of Hoi An had become one of the busiest international trading ports of Southeast Asia by the 17th and 18th centuries. Colonized by the Portuguese in the 16th century, it still retains its charm today, with many of its old buildings superbly preserved.

This morning we’ll take a walk through the historic heart of this World Heritage Site, taking in the city's famous Japanese Bridge and its museum, before wandering amongst its traditional wooden houses and Chinese temples. This afternoon is then free to perhaps take a gentle boat, try your hand at Vietnamese cooking or pay a visit to one of Hoi An's renowned tailors' shops, or maybe explore further afield by bike. We will start cycling today from the resort in Hoi An Ancient Town on the back street past lively fishing villages to Thu Bon river. Cross the river by a steel bridge and visit a local fresh market where the fish come straight out of the East Sea and into the baskets of this small market. Great opportunity to see the real daily life of locals who are living in the area for generations. We then continue cycling on the country roads through many villages and small towns.

Take a break by having lunch at a local restaurant near Tam Thanh beach and 2 hours drive ahead to Tam Quan to cycle on quiet back roads through villages dotted with palm trees, then continue along the coastline with sand dune peninsula for great views back over the bay and the mountains. We see lots of coast today as we undulate along the well made road with friendly villagers waving and cheering us on. Overnight in Quy Nhon city in the early evening!

Morning transfer for cycling from Qui Nhon City to Nha Trang takes you through picturesque countryside roads. You will cycle across the longest wooden bridge in Vietnam to reach Ganh Da Dia, a unique karst formation and scenic coastal area. The route continues through lush, verdant seaside landscapes, offering the opportunity to explore historic sites and Vung Ro Bay. 

Lunch will be served at a local beach restaurant, followed by a siesta. In the afternoon, you will continue cycling along scenic single-track paths to Tuy Hoa City, where you will then transfer for 1.5 hours to reach Nha Trang Beach City for your overnight stay.

Spend your own planned day at your leisure in Nha Trang. You can explore the city's attractions, such as Po Nagar Cham Towers, Long Son Pagoda, or take a boat tour to the nearby islands for snorkeling and diving. Relax on the beach, soaking up the sun, or indulge in a rejuvenating spa treatment.

Let’s see how big your challenge is if you want to conquer the Hon Giao Pass after an hour's transfer to the Western Nha Trang. We challenge cycling uphill about 33 km and then rocks & rolls along the pipe tree lance from the altitude of 1960 meters to the Da Lat valley city of 1,500 meters. Overnight at a 3 star hotel in Da Lat !

Leave Dalat and continue your cycling journey to Bao Loc city. This leg of the journey will take you through stunning landscapes of lush green tea plantations, cascading waterfalls, and winding mountain roads. Bao Loc is famous for its tea production, so make sure to sample some of the locally grown teas. Take some time to wander through the city's bustling markets and soak in the local atmosphere. Overnight at the buffer Zone Lodge of Cat Tien Jungle.

Cat Tien is a beautiful national park in Vietnam known for its stunning natural landscapes. The cool weather and the presence of the scenic river and lush forests make this region a popular destination for travelers. You can enjoy a scenic bike ride through the bufferzone's park, passing by pepper and herb farms, hills, and the riverside. The ride also offers opportunities to witness traditional ethnic communities and take in the serene beauty of waterfalls and other natural attractions. The biking distance is approximately 45 km, and the tour can be concluded with an overnight stay at a 4-star hotel in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City).

Driving for 1.5 hours away from Ho Chi Minh City's (formerly Saigon) remarkable rush hour traffic to reach the quieter suburbs this morning, we collect our bikes near the remains of an old French military base and start our ride for about 30 km to the Cu Chi Tunnels. Originally started during the French colonial period, the tunnels went on to achieve notoriety during the Vietnam War, when they formed an amazing underground command base for Viet Cong troops.

We will have lunch on the riverside of the Saigon River and explore the tunnels with a guide this afternoon. Be warned though, the tunnels are low and narrow and can be claustrophobic. Afterward, we'll drive 2 hours back to Ho Chi Minh City for taking a fresh shower and relaxing for a while before enjoying a farewell dinner!

You will be cycling from the outskirts of Saigon to Cai Be, which is known for its durian homeland. The cycling today will include: tasting local tropical fruits, enjoying a boat trip on the Mekong River, trying typical local foods in a charming garden setting.

Today’s tour will return to Saigon around 5:30pm (17h30). Our tour service will end at your booked accommodation in Saigon.
