The Mekong Delta region in Vietnam is a captivating destination filled with diverse landscapes, vibrant cultures, and bustling cities. It is a land of water and rivers, where the mighty Mekong River branches out into numerous tributaries, creating a unique ecosystem that supports the livelihoods of millions of people.
In Cycling Mekong Delta 5 days, you will explore some of the highlights of the Mekong Delta, focusing on the provinces of Ben Tre, Tra Vinh, Can Tho, Chau Doc, and Cao Lanh. Each province has its own distinct charm and attractions, making it a worthwhile stop on any itinerary.
Full itinerary
Day 1: Saigon - My Tho - Ben Tre (L, D/Cycling 55 km+)
We will depart around 7:30 AM by van to Tan An, which is only about 1.5 hours away. We will fit and adjust the bikes for your 5-day cycling adventure. Our first stop will be an impressive compound of lesser-known vegetable farms. We will then take a ferry and ride past the well-known farmland that supplies Ho Chi Minh City. As we continue cycling, we will pass through an area renowned for its herbs and dragon fruits. You may have the chance to see locals harvesting beans in the fields, and we will enjoy a local lunch experience.
In the afternoon, you can choose to continue cycling or take a break for a hammock siesta. Our escort guide will be available to assist you. Next, we will head to Ben Tre, a region known for its abundant fruit orchards and coconut production. This will be an opportunity to engage your senses by observing the huge plantations, tasting the fresh fruit, and experiencing the local aroma.
At the end of the cycling day, we will reach the riverbank of the Mekong River, where we will transfer to our accommodation in Ben Tre. You will spend the night at a 4-star resort and enjoy dinner at the finest local restaurant.

Day 2: Ben Tre -Tra Vinh - Vinh Long – Can Tho (B/L)
Routine: Tra Vinh – Tieu Can – Tra Met – Tra On – My Hoa – Can Tho.
Ben Tre is a small town and it is not a major tourist destination, so it is relatively quiet at night. After 8:30 pm, most businesses seem to be closed.
In the morning, we will transfer you to Tra Vinh, which is considered the homeland of the Khmer people, and there are numerous Khmer temples throughout the province. We will plan a full day of cycling, which will give you the opportunity to not only learn about the local culture, but also experience cycling through traditional Khmer villages. We will stop and visit some thatch houses, observe the ways of living, and visit some colorful temples on our way cycling through Tieu Can to Cau Ke.
After lunch in town, we will begin a fantastic bicycle ride, starting with a short van/minibus transfer to Vinh Long. We will continue to explore the beautiful countryside villages by cycling along canals, rivers, various fruit orchards, and through rice paddy fields. We will end the cycling and get on a van to Can Tho, where we will check into a 4-star hotel.

Day 3: Can Tho Floating Market - Long Xuyen - Chau Doc (B/L)
Routine: Can Tho – Cai Rang Floating Market – Thoi Lai – Co Do – Long Xuyen – Chau Doc.
After you observing farmers exchanging farm products from boat to boat at lively floating market of Cai Rang, we will carry on our cycling adventure with a long day bicycling to Chau Doc. Today’ morning is to explore undiscovered countryside, pedal past bucolic settlements of networks of irrigation canal, we ride to Thai Lai then to Co Do. After lunch, we cycle past bucolic settlements and vibrant green rice paddies on wonderfully quiet track to Long Xuyen city. Enjoy an hour and half driving on A/C van to Chau Doc town.

Day 4: Chau Doc - Cho Moi - Cao Lanh (B/L/D)
Routine: Chau Doc – Tra Su Forest – Cho Moi – Dinh Yen – Sa Dec.
In your morning’ bike adventure is to explore a low-land in Tinh Bien to Tra Su forest. The areas have yearly flooded in the wet season. Houses on stilts have seen in this land for a long time but most are not solid houses and built with local materials. First, we will have a 30 minutes motor boat ride to see birds, lotus with the big mat of green water ferns in between the floody cajuput trees. Secondly, we bike through Muslim villages, vegetable farms, rice paddy fields and passing many rice husking mills, brick factories. At last, a pleasure time for us to cycle tiny villages on islands, experience locals on Monastery and sharing the country road with local scooters going back from work, and kids ride bicycle home from school. Especially, the ride will take you through peaceful, seemingly undiscovered rural villages by river, also pass a hundred Sleeping Mat Village Dinh Yen and Boat Building Hometown with some single tracks in adventurely. Stay a night in none tourist city of Sa Dec.

Day 5: Cao Lanh - Xeo Quyt - Cai Be - Saigon (B, L)
Routine: Sa Dec – Cao Lanh – Xeo Quyt Base – Cai Be – Cai Lay – Saigon.
After visiting a ancient Huynh Thuy Le house which has been famous for “The Lover Film” by Maguerite Duras Writer and then half an hour transfer by vehicle and take a ferry to Cao Lanh to rural Dist for beginning the ride, we start cycling on quite back roads to Xeo Quyt base in the morning. Then you will have sampan boat rowed into forest, stopping at some bunkers of Viet Cong, walk to communist leader’ bases before lunch. If time permitted, the ride will continue from Cai Be to Cai Lay. We ride on single track, cross many manmade canals by ferries, pedal on concrete paths by the river to high way 1A.
